In "Qaraberd: Poverty Behind Gold" new video, which presents the social, environmental and health problems of the residents Qaraberd settlement affected by Qaraberd gold mine in Lori Region, experts talk about the negative impact of mining.
In 2022, in order to find out the impact of Qaraberd gold mine on the environment and the health of local residents, Czech "Arnica" NGO, together with "Center for Community Mobilization and Support " and "EcoLur" Informational NGOs, conducted a survey of chemical pollution in the areas adjacent to the mine and in the affected Qaraberd settlement.
Czech experts took samples from the mine tailing dump, adjacent soils, river bed sediment, residents' gardens, hair and urine. The samples were examined in a laboratory in the Czech Republic, revealing a high concentration of heavy metals in the agricultural land of Qaraberd residents.
