Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan discussed the tree replacement program in the capital with specialists. During the tour, he was shown the trees that had lost their vitality on the spot and noted the need to replace them.
136 trees were damaged and felled in Yerevan in 2023.
Armen Begoyan, Director of "Landscape Gardening and Environmental Protection" CNPO, noted that the trees that were planted back in the 1950s need to be replaced.
"The opportunity available in those times and the state of development of dendrology science enabled doing the much they did; afterwards the time showed which trees would endure under those climatic conditions," noted Zhirayr Vardanyan, a correspondent member of NAS RA, Scientific Head of Institute of Botany named after Takhtajyan of NAS RA.
According to Chief Dendrologist Artsvi Grigoryan, those trees alrready do not fulfill their functions. The municipality offers to replace the trees that have lost their vitality with valuable, beautiful and ten-year-old trees.
Reminder: a year ago, the municipality started cutting and replacing trees, which caused dissatisfaction and disagreement of Yerevan residents.
