The cedar woods will be restored in Armenia for the first time over the last 40 years. The first 7 thsd nursery plants were planted in Syunik region within the frames of UNDP programme on raising adaptation of wood ecosystems to the consequences of the climate changing.

As the head of the programme Aram Ter-Zakaryan told ArmInfo correspondent, specialists are going to restore 20 ha of Kapan wood territory. 'Over the last 30-40 years cedar trees were not planted in Armenia as cedar is not considered valuable type of tree. At the same time, it plays an important part in preserving the eco-system as it grows on the ground which had suffered because of erosion, and in several years it will create favorable conditions for other woods growing', - he said.

To note, the UNDP programme costs \\$ 900 thsd. The programme is being financed by Global Ecological Fund.
