The springs of the drinking water in Martz Village, Lori Region, have dried out, as the villagers told EcoLur. The problem with the drinking water arose still 7 years ago. “We used to have 4 or 5 hours of tape water, and we knew we had drinking water. The whole village used to have an internal network: all the houses had tape water just for limited number of hours. Nevertheless, gradually, the water hours decreased, and after two years we already experienced serious problems with water,” one of Martz villagers said.
Now the houses don’t have running water all. As the residents think, the cause of dried springs is tree felling. “Probably, that’s the reason. The trees over the springs were cut down,” the villagers said.
Now the village uses the dirty water of the spring flowing from the mountains. “It’s a brooklet, which flows from the mountain, while there are residents on the mountain, animals swim there, even you can find dead animals in it. This water flows into the basin of the village and runs from our tapes. This water sometimes has color like mud,” Martz resident says.
Martz villagers have to bring drinking water from Alaverdi, some villagers take water from their neighbors who have made some investments and laid a pipeline of drinking water to their yards.
It should be mentioned that the forest surrounding Martz village has valuable tree species, which are massively cut down every year.
