On 17 October EcoLur's  camera fixed hundreds of felled down tree stubs near Yeghegis River in the administrative area of Hermon Community, Vayots Dzor Region. It was clear that healthy and young trees have been cut down. Th stubs of the felled down were so many that it was impossible to count their number. The police car appeared on the spot of the shooting. As Yeghegnadzor Division of Vayots Dzor Regional Department of the Armenian Police informed EcoLur, the area where tree felling has been carried out, has its owner. According to them, the area owners has himself planted these trees for the purpose of their further felling and sale. According to the policemen, there was no violation of law.

EcoLur is addressing an inquiry to the State Environmental Inspection of Armenia:

1. Whether there was an inspection carried out based on the fact of massive tree felling to reveal whether the mass tree felling on the bank of the Yeghegis River were legal or illegal?

2. Who owns the areas, where the mass free felling has been carried out, whether it's community-owned or private-owned?

3. If the area is privately owned, where the trees were planted before acquiring the area if after it? Whether it has been detected what kind of tree were cut down and whether there are hazelnut trees among them, which are banned to be felled irregardless of the fact whether they are in the private area or in the orchard?

4. Whether it's established if the felled down trees were in the protected zone of the Yeghegis River or not?
