The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) together with “Armenian Tree Project” Non-Profit-Making Organization and “ArmForest” State Non-Commercial Organization held tree planting in forest-free territories adjacent to three village communities in Lori Marz. The aim of this program is to mitigate the impacts of climate changes by recovering forest landscapes in Armenia.
Now one can see young trees in straight horizontal and vertical lines on the hills adjacent to Arjout, Qarakert and Lernantsq Villages in Lori Marz that will become a forest only in 10-15 years.
World Wildlife Fund Armenia Head Karen Manvelyan says this program was launched in 2008, but the very tree planting was conducted in fall 2009 and spring of this year. ATP and “ArmForest” succeeded in planting 630 ha of territory just within two seasons.
