Kapan-based NGOs called the breakdown in Zangezour Copper and Molybdenum Combine (ZCMC) disastrous. The breakdown occurred on 14 November in Kajaran Town which resulted in ZCMC wastes flowing into the Voghji River. The State Environmental Inspection of Nature Protection Ministry of Armenia must find out the extent of the damage. As Kapan-based “for Ensuring Ecological Safety and Developing Democracy” NGO representative Artur Ghazaryan told EcoLur, the NGOs are drawing up a letter addressed to Nature Protection Minister Ararm Harutyunyan and Energy and Natural Resources Minister Armen Movsisyan, Syunik regional Head Surik Khachatryan, Kapan Town Mayor Artur Atayan and ZCMC Director General Maksim Hakobyan. In their letter the public demands to publicize the examination results, as well as what kind of actions are taken to eliminate the consequences of this breakdown.
