On 3 November, the employees of Alaverdi Copper Smelting Plant had a meeting with Varag Siseryan, Head of Office of Deputy PM Tigran Avinyan and Aide to Acting PM Aren Mkrtchyan.
In his interview with the tert.am, Varag Siseryan noted that they spoke about the temporary re-operation of the plant at the meeting so as 630 employees have an opportunity to continue their operation.
“In order to reach a final decision, we need to solve the matter with the VTB where we are a mediator in this process. The negotiations ended in requesting an official document from the bank which lays down their proposals on the pledge. We asked them to provide this paper on Monday but it was provided yesterday, at around 11:00,” he outlined.
Varag Siseryan said that either the parties shall gather around the table or dispatch messages as a mediator.
Varag Siseryan outlined that the construction of a new copper smelting plant and afterward the final closedown of the old copper smelting plant will be the acceptable, correct and final solution to this problem.
“In the frameworks of the working group established by Deputy PM, we will continue supporting “Armenian Copper program’ CJSC in implementing the project on the construction of a new copper smelting plant. Reminder: the volume of the emissions of the new copper smelting plant as compared with the old one will be reduced by around 95%,” he added.
