GeoProMining Gold LLC plans to increase the productivity of Ararat Gold Extraction Plant. Currently, Ararat Gold Extraction Plant processes 1.0 million tons of ore per year. The new project envisages increasing productivity to 1.750 million tons due to the reconstruction of some parts of the plant. On September 3, at 14:00, in the house of culture of Ararat rural community in Ararat Region, public hearings will be held on the application for preliminary environmental impact assessment of GeoProMining Gold LLC's Ararat gold extraction plant (second stage).
It should be noted that before the Armenian-Azerbaijani war situation, which started on September 27, 2020, GeoProMining Gold LLC was in the process of increasing the production capacity of the gold mining plant by 75%, which would increase the volume of waste accumulated in the tailings dump.
The tailings dam occupies an area of 165 hectares. Under the project, the tailing dump is filled to the mark of 814.50 m, the volume of which is 3.82 million cubic meters. If the plant with a processing capacity of 1.75 million tons/year operates, the tailing dump will serve for 5.8 years. On the north-eastern side, the annexed tailing dump is filled to 809.50 m, the residual volume up to 812.50 m is 0.69 million cubic meters or 0.93 million tons.
Until the tailing dump is exhausted, it is planned to calculate the stability of the existing tailing dump, which will allow a final decision to be made on whether to increase the volume of the existing tailing dump by raising the dam or to build a new tailing dump nearby.
Under the project, it is planned to spend 837,176.84 thousand AMD for the reclamation of the tailing dump according to the prices for 2012.
Among the environmental measures included in the projection are the introduction of a full-partial circulating water system, the construction of a new tail pipeline, the introduction of an internal-external drainage system of the tailing dump, the exclusion of the infiltration of contaminated water from the tailing dump bottom.
