"KHITCH" LLC intends to openly develop Haghtanak section of Parakar basalt mine in Armavir region near Yerevan for 20 years. The company has filed an application to RA Environment Ministry for the preliminary environmental impact assessment of mining operations. The second public hearing on the application number is scheduled for this year, on December 14 at 11:00, in Merdzavan Community Municipality in Armavir Region.
The mine is planned to be developed through one-sided five-meter-high mines, without explosions, and the extracted basalt raw material will be transported to a stone processing plant. The volume of excavation rocks in the area of the open pit will constitute 3700.0 cubic meters. “Vordan Karmir” State Reserve is located at a distance from the mine.
What about the pollution of the air basin, the project says: "Vehicles working in the mine will become a source of harmful gases, dust emissions, and dust formation will take place in connection with the technological process of sand extraction within the open pit. According to preliminary calculations, the maximum concentrations of nitrogen oxide, carbon dioxide, soot, harmful gases in the area of the site will not exceed the maximum permissible concentrations specified in the normative documents.
The impact on the atmosphere is mainly due to the emissions of smoke gases, dust emissions in the course of mining operations and dust emissions from the surface of the landfills.”
