Alarm Signal: Voghji River Polluted with Acidic Water from Kavart Mine As a Result of Heavy Rainfall

Voghji River in Syunik Region was again polluted with the acidic waters of Kavart mine. On May 17, 2022, a video and photos were posted on Facebook by "Nature is Us" user, where it can be seen that the Voghji River is polluted.

In his conversation with EcoLur, Artak Sahakyan, Head of Syuniq Regional Department of Nature Protection and Mining Inspection Body, said that the cause of the pollution was heavy rain. After each heavy rain, the waters of Kavart underground mine are poured into Kavart River with rainwater, then flow and mix with the Voghji River. There is no economic activity in the area, there is no external influence, fighting against it is fighting against nature, which is impossible. The other option is the rehabilitation ofKavart mine, which requires a special program," he said.

According to Artak Sahakyan, the polluted flow in the river is still going on.
