Czech “Arnika” NGO together with non-governmental organizations from Armenia “Center for Community Mobilization and Support” NGO and “EcoLur” Informational NGO starts a new stage of research on chemical pollution in Kotayk, Lori and Aragatsotnos Regions in areas affected by industrial facilities. Particular attention is paid to the mining and smelting industry. In 2022, it is planned to conduct research in the territory of Meghradzor village of Tsaghkadzor consolidated community, Kotayk Region, and Qaraberd village of Vanadzor community, Lori Region.

In 2023, research will be carried out in the territory of Melikgyukh village of Aparan consolidated community, Aragatsotn Region, and the administrative territory of Hrazdan community, Kotayk Region. The research is carried out within the framework of “Participation of civil society in chemical safety advocacy in Armenia” project, implemented with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.

Reminder: the previous projects, including studies of chemical pollution in Tumanyan area of Lori Region, helped to assess the degree of impact of industrial pollution on health, social sphere and the environment. The developed research model is based on analyses taken according to a specific scheme, including all links in the pollution chain through environmental components (for example, soil, bottom sediments, dust), up to the human body.

The presented analysis formed the basis for specific proposals for the rehabilitation of territories submitted to state bodies and local governments.
