The parent company of "Chaarat Kapan" company, which operates Shahumyan gold-polymetallic mine in Kapan community, is negotiating to acquire Amulsar gold mine, as we learn from the statement published by the company on the news platform of the London Stock Exchange.
In the statement, Chaarat confirms that it is in discussions regarding the potential acquisition of Lydian Armenia CJSC from Lydian Canada Ventures Corporation. “There is no certainty at this stage, that the proposed Acquisition will be completed. A further announcement will be made when appropriate,” the statement says.
Earlier, the media reported that Chaarat showed interest in acquiring Amulsar. Meanwhile, Lydian Armenia, the operator of Amulsar mine, countered that it "does not have any agreement and arrangement with Chaarat company regarding the sale of Amulsar mine."
The operation of Amulsar gold mine was planned to commence in 2018, but a number of residents of Jermuk and environmental activists have been keeping the entrances to the mine blocked for over four years, raising concerns about the irreversible damage to Jermuk Town and other areas due to the operation. "Lydian Armenia" informed about the presence of more than 70 tons of gold reserves in the area of the mine.
