EIA Report of Metal Waste Recycling Plant in Erebuni in Last Stage of Discussions

The fourth public discussion of the environmental impact assessment of the planned metal waste processing plant at 22/1 Arin Berdi in the industrial zone of Erebuni administrative district, presented by "Leila Khachatryan" LLC, will take place at the residence of Erebuni Administrative District Head in Yerevan at 11:30 a.m. on January 25, 2022.

According to the EIA report, the distance of the factory site from the nearest residential districts is approximately 810 m, and 680 m from the nearest building of the "Erebuni" medical center. Copper, aluminum, brass and bronze waste will be used as raw materials.

According to the report, the main environmental risks of the operation are related to the generation of flue gases during the operation of the furnaces, which contain toxic substances, particularly nitrogen, carbon oxides and solid particles.

According to the EIA report, in June 2022, the "Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center" SNCO carried out atmospheric air quality monitoring according to two indicators of sulfur and nitrogen dioxides in the area ofthe planned factory by the order of the company. In the test samples, the average daily concentration of sulfur dioxide was found to be 0.40-041, nitrogen dioxide was 0.018-0.024 mg/m3. For the first, the permissible limit concentration (PLC) makes up 0.05, for the second -0.04 mg/m3. This data was obtained while the plant was still in operation. In the case of its construction, the volumes of concentrations of dioxides contain risks of exceeding PLC.
