Public hearings initiated by "Zangezur Copper-Molybdenum Combine" CJSC regarding Lichq copper mining in Syunik Regiob failed. On April 5, 2023, Meghri community residents did not allow the company's representatives to enter the community hall to conduct the first discussion of the preliminary environmental impact assessment (EIA) application for mining minerals in Lichq copper mine.
Residents voiced their position against the mine operation and mentioned socio-economic, health, and environmental problems.
Addressing Meghri residents, Bagrat Zakaryan said:
"Since the people did not allow the public hearing to take place, we consider it not held."
