Nature Protection Minister Instructs to Address Problem, Whereas He Knew Answer Still from 2008

EcoLur

Recently Nature Protection Minister Aram Harutyunyan has responded to the Hetq alarm signal that the wastes from Akhtala Ore Processing Combine are dumped to the Akhtala River, and afterwards they flow into transboundary Debed River. He stated he assigned to address this problem.

EcoLur regards the Minister’s instruction as an attempt to evade from the solution to the problem, as this problem was examined still in 2008, while the Nature Protection Ministry didn’t make any kind of conclusions and proposals.

As a proof, EcoLur presents‚ Hydrochemical Analysis of  Debed and Akhtala Rivers Under Data of Monitoring in 2008” Report that the Center for Environmental Impact Monitoring addressed to Minister Aram Harutyunyan.

Thus, for example, the monitoring outcomes in Observation Site № 1 show thar the concentration of ions of copper, zinc, manganese and alluminium exceeded maximum permissible concentrations by 9199,0-10656,0 times for (Cu),  363,1-397,6 times for (Zn), 580,9-642,3 times for (Mn), 262,8 times for (Al).

Report conclusions:

1) high concentration of heavy metals in the Akhtala River,

2) direct impact of water from derelict galleries, acid - drainage water on the Akhtala River and ultrahigh concentration of heavy metals and sulphates,

3) direct impact of the tailing dump on the Akhtala River developed by Akhtala Ore Processing Combine that leads to the pollution with heavy metals,

 4) direct negative impact of Akhtala River on the water of Debed Rver leading to the pollution with heavy metals. Observation site is the place of their confluence.
