“Mego Gold” LLC has intentions for open pit mining in the central area of Tukhmanuk gold mine. The company has submitted the working project of the area to the “Environmental Expertise” SNCO of Nature Protection Ministry.
The development of Tukhmanuk gold mine is planned to be carried out in two stages, where 1,050,000 tons of ore is planned to be mined in the first stage, in upcoming 6 years, while the remaining reserve of the mine is planned to be carried in the second stage with annual production capacity of 1,100,000 tons. The mine occupies around 40 ha of area. The mine reserve makes up 1.37 million tons of ore – C1+C2 categories, 8837 kg of gold and 48.5 tons of silver.
The project submitted by “Mego Gold” LLC includes the first stage of development, where 1,050,000 tons of ore is planned to be mined in the first stage. The amount of metals subject to extraction is as follows: gold – 2290.04 kg, silver - 11331.56 kg. The maximum amount of waste dumps will make up 925,300 cum.
Reminder: Two full tailing dumps owned by 'Mego Gold' LLC are located near Meliq Village, Aragatsotn Region. Without reclaiming the full tailing dumps, 'Mego Gold' LLC intended to construct the third tailing dump, but the locals opposed to it demanding, first of all, to reclaim the old tailing dumps. In May 2013 the Nature Protection Ministry issued a negative opinion to the working project of the tailing dump for the Tukhmanuk ore dressing plant in Aragatsotn Region submitted by 'Mego Gold' LLC.
Under the project, the conditional risk of health population is modest. One of the factors of external unfavorable impact on Meliq villagers is the noise generated during the mining.
