“The Government definitely doesn’t solve any environmental problem,” said economist Vahagn Khachatryan, a member of the Armenian National Congress. Under him, Armenia already experiences problems with the neighboring countries in regard with the pollution of transboundary waters. On one hand, the government wants to develop tourism, while, on the other hand, everything is polluted and killed in Zangezour and Teghout. “Not the Armenian authorities, but the Iranian authorities have requirements towards following environmental standards for the Araks River. Every month they carry out the monitoring of the Araks River, and if this requirement doesn’t exist, we will find ourselves in a rather bad situation. I possess information that at official level no note is addressed to Armenia, but at non-official we are warned that we have exceeded the limits. We are going to have the same situation with Georgia in regard with the development of Teghout copper and molybdenum mine.”
