On March 23, 223, RA government decided to start the process of extending the operation period of the 2nd power unit of "Armenian Atomic Power Plant" CJSC after September 2026 in order to justify the safe operation of the 2nd power unit of the nuclear power plant and ensure the continuity of operation.
According to the rationale of the decision, taking into account the already completed modernization works, as well as the opinions of specialized organizations and the international experience of extending the operation period of similar power units, it is planned that by making additional investments/works, an opportunity will be created to extend the operation of the 2nd power unit of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP( by another 10 years from 2026 to 2036.
RA Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure (TAI) was entrusted with the development of the project for the extension of the 2nd power unit of the ANPP.
