"Rosatom" has started the evaluation of the changes in the properties of the metal of the reactor core of the power unit No. 2 of the Armenian Atomic Power Plant. The data will be used when deciding on the possible lifetime extension of the power unit for about 10 years (until 2036), "Новое время" website reports with reference to the "Rosatom" corporation.
Changes in the characteristics of metals (strength, brittleness, etc.) are carried out using special samples made of the same metal as the reactor body. The samples are placed in the reactor body in special containers. During the operation of the nuclear power plant, these samples will be taken for analysis in laboratory conditions. In 2021 "Rosatom Service" and "Rosatom" industrial institutes carried out the welding of the reactor body of power unit No. 2 of the Armenian NPP, which made it possible to restore the metal properties of the body and ensure its future operation.
