Among the top priorities of the Armenian Government for 2014 is the construction of the new power unit for the Armenian nuclear power plant and preparing the operation of the second power unit in additional time period. The executive continues running negotiations to attract investors for the construction of a new power unit at Armenian nuclear power plant and will carry out the assessment of the equipment and buildings of the second power unit, as the Top Priorities of the Armenian Government for 2014 document says.
It should be mentioned that the second power unit of the Armenian nuclear power unit was put into operation in 1980 with life circle of 30 years. Taking into consideration the fact that the power unit was not operated from 1989 to 1995, as well as the delay in the construction of the new power unit in Armenia, the Armenian Government has reached a decision to set the operation deadline in 2016. The duration of the construction works of the nuclear power unit is around 8 years. The works aimed at constructing the new power unit in Armenia should have already started, but Armenia is still in negotiating process, which means that operation deadline of 2016 can be extended.
