Despite Energy and Natural Resources Ministry assurances that uranium reserves in Armenia haven’t been estimates, or Armenia may have none, reserves turned out to exist and make up not less than 100,000 tons. The scientific substantiation to this fact can be found in G. P. Aloyan’s article entitled “Resource Potential for Radioactive Raw Materials in Armenia and Its Development Perspectives” published in “Mountainous Journal” scientific journal (Issue N 3, 2007). Uranium reserves are identified in 34 ore occurrences and mines in the territory of Armenia. It turned out Pkhrout mine, near Lernadzor Village, which was selected for the launch of geological prospecting was not the biggest one. The uranium reserves there were assessed only 20,000 tons, while prognostic reserves of uranium in Lesnoye mine were assessed in the amount of 30-40 tons, while from 10,000 to 15,000 tons can be found in Vedi ore occurrences and 5000 to 10,000 tons can be found in Andi mine.
The article indicates not only prognostic reserves of uranium, but also mapping data that may help Armenian-Russian Mining Company which deals with uranium search in Armenia with a right to select territory for geological prospecting.
