In connection with the blooming of Lake Sevan with blue-green algae, RA Health Ministry issued a statement, which says: "In connection with the activation of blue-green algae in Lake Sevan, Health Ministry carried out preliminary toxicological studies within the framework of monitoring the water quality of coastal areas, as a result of which no changes were observed indicating an acute toxic effect. However, algae, being living organisms, can move, changing species ratios depending on air and water temperature, wind direction and force. Some species produce poisons (toxins) that have a negative effect on the health of animals and humans, which can be exposed to by drinking, swimming or inadvertently swallowing "bloomed" water. In order to avoid health problems, Health Ministry urges to be careful, to forbid children to swim in unauthorized places and to see a doctor immediately in the event of eye irritation, rash, especially around the mouth and nose, skin irritation, allergic reaction and other symptoms.
