"We need to change the whole EIA (environmental impact assessment) examination process and procedures. What we have today does not meet the requirements of modern business entities and circles having environmental concerns," RA Environment Minister Romanos Petrosyan said during his visit to the Ministry's “Environmental Impact Assessment Center” SNCO.
According to Public Relations Department of RA Environment Minister, the Amendment to the Draft Law on Environmental Impact Assessment and Expertise, the status of the EIA institute and its further activities were discussed. The draft law envisages:
· Introduce an e-government system starting with the submission of the EIA application,
· Enable involvement of an international expert or group of experts in the process,
· Ensuring the transparency of the environmental impact assessment process,
· Bringing the legislation in line with international legal standards
· Specifying the working status of experts etc.
The working group on the draft amendment to the law will soon hold ongoing meetings, discussions with representatives of environmental organizations, environmentalists and a larger group of experts.
