SRC Clarified MP Sergey Bagratyan's Statement on Not Payment of Profit Tax by Soil Managers

Soil managers do not pay profit tax for any of the active mines, as the Chair of RA National Assembly Chair of Inquiry Committee for Studying the legality validity and reliability of financial and other reports submitted to the bodies of executive power and adopted by them in the framework of investment programs in the area of industrial metal mining Sergey Bagratyan stated representing the summary of the committee performance. He particularly said, “At the sitting held on November 25, the investigative committee discussed the sectorial information provided to the committee by RA General Prosecutor's Office and Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure. Issues related to the metal mining sector were discussed. The prosecutor's office said that criminal cases have been filed against the two mines. 27 companies operating the mine have licenses, the terms of which expire between 2025 and 2045. It was emphasized that none of the mines in the active phase of operation pays profit tax, i.e. does not work with profit." In response, RA State Revenue Committee made a clarification, which says: "Out of 28 taxpayers licensed to operate in the mining sector, 8 taxpayers are actually active in this sector in 2019 and 9 in 2020.

Active (actual) taxpayers engaged in mining activities declared 10.9% of the profit tax declared by all taxpayers in 2018, and 11.1% of the profit tax declared in 2019. The data for 2020 have not been submitted, as the taxpayers submit the calculation of the profit tax of the previous year until April 20, 2021 inclusive. For our part it should be noted that the rights of 5 out of 28 companies entitled to develop metal mines were terminated by RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure in 2020.
