Environment Minister: Citizens Will Access Forests Exclusively for Strolls or Berry Gathering in Near Future

RA Environment Ministry plans to allow citizens to enter the forest only for a stroll or to pick berries in the near future, whereas the removal of timber and fallen deadwood from the forest will be carried out exclusively by "ArmForest" SNCO, as RA Environment Minister Romanos Petrosyan stated at the press conference held on January 26.

"The ideal model would be for our citizen to enter the forest exclusively for a walk or to pick berries. Only "ArmForest" will carry out the industry of legal timber for the purchase of wood, collection of fallen deadwood, including exclusively “ArmForest” will carry out taking out construction timber and legal firewood on contractual bases. “ArmForest” will also be responsible for reforestation, afforestation and forest management. As a result, we will have a model when, due to the growth of the forest's own revenues, we can increase the own capabilities of "ArmForest" and Forest Committee and carry out technical re-equipment. In that way, it will be possible to increase the salaries of the employees," the minister said.

The process of these reforms is planned to be implemented within 1-2 years.
