Illegal Tree Felling Increased by Around 186% in First Semester of 2021 in Syunik Region

During the first half of 2021, the number of cases of illegal logging increased in the administrative territory of Syunik Region, due to which the criminal cases were initiated, as RA Prosecutor's Office informs.

During the mentioned period, 43 cases of illegal tree felling were registered instead of 15 cases of the same period of the previous year. The number of cases increased by 28 or about 186%. In 20 of them, criminal cases were initiated, which is 4 times more than in the same period of the previous year (5 criminal cases). The damage caused to the state by illegal logging cases initiated in criminal cases amounted to more than 35 million drams. The criminal cases for damages in the amount of about 5 million AMD were suspended on the grounds that the persons to be involved are not known as the accused, and the preliminary investigation of the criminal cases in the amount of about 30 million AMD for damages continues.

Considering the alarming dynamics of the growth of cases of illegal logging in the region, Syunik Regional Prosecutor addressed relevant letters to Acting Chair of Forest Committee of RA Environment Ministry, Acting Director of RA Forest Committee "ArmForect" SNCO, Head of RA Nature Protection and Mining Inspection Body and Syuniq Regional Head.
