During the first half of 2021, the import of exclusively electric vehicles imported to the territory of the Republic of Armenia has sharply increased, as Environment Ministry informs.
This is presented as a result of the amendments made to Article 64 of the Tax Code developed by the Ministry and adopted by National Assembly, due to which from July 1, 2019 to January 1, 2022, the import and sale of all vehicles powered exclusively by electric engine was exempt from VAT. Thus, 668 vehicles were imported in 2019, 2155 vehicles - in 2020, and 2468 vehicles in the first half of 2021.
According to the official statement, the amendments are aimed at reducing the amount of emissions from cars running on other fuels, improving the state of air pollution, and promoting the use of environmentally friendly vehicles in Armenia.
