About 40% of storks in Armavir region are polluted, as it was reported by the Armenian branch of the German Society for the Conservation of Nature (NABU). "Although the percentage of pollution is less than in Ararat Region, but this is also a large amount, which brings with it a huge ecological problem. This jeopardizes not only the white storks, but also the local population and their health," their press release says.
It should be reminded that about a month ago the registration of white storks in Ararat Ռegion was completed, which showed that almost 60% of the storks in Ararat Region are polluted.
It should be noted that NABU has been conducting stork research and registration since 2020, with the aim of finding out the prevalence of storks, their sources of contamination, their causes, the number of contaminated storks and finding possible solutions.
The press release also says that laboratory tests on stork feathers are underway, which will enable to understand the cause of the pollution.
