RA Ministry Environment responded to the letter addressed to RA Environment Minister Romanos Petrosyan by the civil society, which demanded to reject Spandaryan basalt mine development project. The letter was authored by EcoLur, Forests of Armenia, Freedom of Information Center, Green Armenia, Environmental Public Union, Goy, Janus NGOs and a group of Yerevan residents.
In particular, the Ministry informs that the issues related to Spandaryan basalt mining project by "Trav Stone Group" LLC in Yerevan may be addressed in accordance with RA Subsoil Code and Law “On Environmental Impact Assessment and Expertise”, only in case of submitting an appropriate package for the environmental impact expert assessment.
Reminder: a letter with the same content was sent to Yerevan Municipality, in response to which Yerevan Municipality informed that all applications for the development of new mines were rejected during the incumbent city authorities, and initiated an environmental impact assessment of the existing abandoned mines.
