The need to adopt the decision is due to the need to partially alleviate the deficit of irrigation water supply of the lands under the rule of the irrigation systems fed from Sevan-Hrazdan derivation system. The surface of the lands was about 31.3 thousand hectares, and the demand for irrigation water will be about 445.3 million cubic meters. It was calculated that the water deficit will make up 121.4 million cubic meters. The lands are entirely the lands of Ararat Valley.
The Committee members raised the issue of fish farms operating in Ararat Valley, which use a large amount of water resources.
Committee member, water resources management specialist Vladimir Narimanyan mentioned that from the beginning of the irrigation season, from May to July, the irrigation water demand was closed at the expense of Lake Sevan.
"Lake Sevana has already started to bloom. We need to reduce the negative effects on the lake in order to avoid irreversible consequences", Bardukh Gabrielyan said.
The Committee members suggested to the Water Committee to review the calculations of water demand and water deficit and present accurate and substantiated data.
