By 2030, Armenia plans to introduce biodiversity-friendly agricultural management approaches, ensure the sustainable management of pastures, expand organic agriculture, and develop agricultural advisory services.
These objectives are set out in Order No. 100-L of RA Environment Minister, Hambardzum Matevosyan, entitled "On Approving Biodiversity Conservation Targets of the Republic of Armenia and Action Plan for 2026–2030."
The agricultural component is reflected in Target 12 of the Action Plan. Under this target, Armenia plans to ensure the sustainable management of pastures and hayfields across at least 150,000 hectares by 2030.
In addition, during 2026–2028, it is planned to review and update the biodiversity conservation measures included in the strategic policy documents governing the agricultural sector.
The Action Plan also provides for ensuring that, by 2030, at least 0.04 percent of arable land is managed under organic farming, while at least 0.01 percent of agricultural land is managed in accordance with biodiversity-friendly organic farming principles, including the development of agroforestry.
The target also envisages the development of a digital platform and a mobile application, as well as the implementation of a pilot project in at least one consolidated community to test and further develop an agricultural advisory service in Armenia.
The advisory service is intended to promote the adoption of biodiversity-friendly agricultural practices.
