According to data from the Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Centre SNCO of the Ministry of Environment, historically high water levels were recorded in the Akhuryan, Aparan and Azat reservoirs in early October. Specialists consider the filling levels of Armenia’s three major reservoirs favourable, with conditions expected to be promising for the 2027 irrigation season.
Akhuryan Reservoir Records an All-Time High
As of 6 October, the volume of water stored in Akhuryan Reservoir stood at 432 million cubic metres (m³). The reservoir’s total capacity is 525 million m³, meaning it is currently about 82% full. This is the highest level recorded for this time of year throughout the reservoir’s operating history, which dates back to 1980.
Akhuryan Reservoir supplies Armavir and Talin canals and plays a vital role in agriculture in Shirak and Armavir Regions, as well as in Aragatsotn and Ararat Regions.
Aparan Reservoir at Its Highest Level Since 1968
As of 7 October 2026, the volume of water in Aparan Reservoir stood at 34.63 million m³, with the reservoir 38% full. This is the highest level recorded on 7 October throughout the observation period from 1968 to 2026.
This October’s water reserves exceed even the peak spring filling levels recorded in some years.
