On April 3 the draft decision “On Approving Procedure for Issuing, Liquidation and Conservation of Water Usage Permits for Illegally Operated, As Well As Not Used Wells.” On April 1, Nature Protection Minister Aram Harutyunyan presented the provisions of this draft decision to water using companies, fish farmers, stakeholder NGO representatives, fish breeders and community leaders in Ararat and Armavir regions. It’s planned to ban issuing permits for drilling new wells for fish farming purposes in Ararat and Armavir regions and the community heads in these regions are assigned not to issue any permit for the construction of not drilled wells to companies having water usage permit, as these permits will be considered invalid. The draft says that Ararat Valley basin management plan will be developed by 1 September 2015.
