Nature Protection Minister Aramayis Grigoryan has received the administration members of “Union of Armenian Fish Farmers” NGO headed by Chairman Armen Buniatyan.
Nature Protection Minister Aramayis Grigoryan informed that the Armenian Government has taken projected actions to solve the problem of decreased groundwater level in Ararat Valley, but he would like to listen to fish farmers’ approaches to solve the problems and get their support, as the government can’t solve the problems alone.
“This meeting is important for all of us, as we need to urgently save water in the region. The problem is so urgent that the government had made a decision to take decisive actions. When taking measures we have also taken into consideration the interests of fish farmers,” the minister outlined. “Union of Armenian Fish Farmers” NGO Armen Buniatyan is concerned with the fact that some fish farmers take more water than they need to produce that particular amount of fish. Nature Protection Minister informed that they have developed an appropriate project, which will enable reducing volumes of used water in fish farming. These works should be organized so as not to damage fish farming.
Fish farmers expressed their willingness to support the Nature Protection Minister with all the capacities they have in solving the problem of artesian basin in Ararat Valley, as they realize the groundwater resources should be used effectively for long-term fish farming.
