Construction of small HPPs to accelerate Armenia’s economic growth – government

YEREVAN. – Armenia increased interest towards construction of small Hydro Power Plants, Armenia’s PM Tigran Sargsyan told at a government sitting on Thursday.

According to him, construction of small HPPs will have a positive impact on GDP as well.

Government on Thursday changed soil category in some regions of Armenia following the offer of Armenian Ministry of Territorial Administration. The soil category change aims to construct small HPPs, knitted goods factory and dwelling houses.

Armenia has 110 small HPPs with average power of 130 MVt that produce 450 million kVt/hour power annually. It makes eight percent of electricity produced in Armenia.

Besides, there are 65 small HPPs with the same power and productivity, construction of which is in progress. Armenia expects to have 165 small HPPs by the end of this year.
