EcoLur
EcoLur is inviting all the stakeholders and mass media representatives to take part in the presentation of “Interactive Model of Ecological Risk Analysis” at 12:00 p.m. on 1 November. The presentation will be held at EcoLur Press Club (49 Hanrapetutyan st.). Metallic mines, land areas polluted with heavy metals, rivers polluter with industrial wastes… We all speak about these risks and we need to assess them. EcoLur’s Expert Group has developed an interactive model of ecological risk analysis for selected areas.
This model is a tool, which enables to see to what extent the certain area is exposed to ecological risks. The risks are categorized under 5 parameters: air, water, soil, biodiversity and health. Each category is assessed in three-point scale: standard, critical and disastrous. The model uses the data from official and independent sources and scientific publications. Via the model it’s possible to compare the level of risks according to different data. For example, Yerevan is a green city according to the data about air pollution provided by “Environmental Impact Monitoring Center” SCNO of Nature Protection Ministry of Armenia. But if we consider the impact of industrial emissions on human health, only 3 out of 12 areas in Yerevan are in normal condition.
Risk Model is displayed on EcoLur’s website, www.ecolur.org, in the form of “Risk Analysis” interactive map. All the case studies, relating to the Risk Model are displayed in the “Analysis of Ecological risks” section.
The model has been developed in the frames of “Alternative Resources in Media” program with the support of USAID.
