“Shikahogh” State Reserve, “Arevik” National Park, “Sycamore Grove”, “Zangezour”, “Khostoup”, “Bokhaqar” and “Sev Litch” state reserves are united under one body - “Zangezour” Bioatmospheric Complex SNCO. The government passed the decision about establishing “Zangezour” Bioatmospheric Complex on 19 December.
The draft decision on establishing “Zangezour” Bioatmospheric Complex, the approval of Articles of Association of “Zangezour” Bioatmospheric Complex, as well as the draft decision on establishing “Khoustoup” state reserve has been submitted by Nature Protection Minister. The rationale says, "For the efficiency of managing specially protected areas in Syunik Region of Armenia…
The need to adopt a decision arises from the conditions that the management of specially protected areas in Syunik Region is carried out via various state non-commercial organizations, which doesn’t enable to reduce expenses on the preservation of specially protected areas plus the costs of maintaining the regime of specially protected areas. That’s why it’s more expedient to have one state non-commercial organization to manage the aforementioned specially protected area for more effective management of expenses.” German KfW Development Bank provided 8.2 million Euros for establishing “Zangezour” Bioatmospheric Complex.
