Verdict of Public Environmental Court on Hazards Threatening Lake Sevan Sent to RA Prime Minister, RA Chief Prosecutor and Secretary of RA Security Council

The verdict of Public Environmental Court on the hazards threatening Lake Sevan was sent to RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, RA Chief Prosecutor Arthur Davtyan and Secretary of RA Security Council Armen Grigoryan by EcoLur on 27 May. The trial of this case was held on 8 May. The claim filed by Liana Asoyan, President of “Blejan” NGO supporting environment, society and business. The member judges were environmental lawyer Nazeli Vardanyan, ethnographer and publicist Hranush Kharatyan human rights defender Zaruhi Hovhannisyan, 'Territorial Development and Studies Center' NGO President Satik BAdeyan and President of 'EcoLur' Informational NGO Inga Zarafyan, who ruled:

1.      The ecosystem violations of Lake Sevan as an environmental, economic, social, scientific, cultural and historical, aesthetic, health, climate, recreation and religious value of strategic significance, which have disturbed the ecological safety of Armenia, have led to the elimination of the ecosystem, promoted the deterioration of the socio-economic state, as a result of which irreversible environmental and economic damage has been caused of extreme extents, to recognize these violations as a crime against nature, humanity and state.

2.      To hold the Armenian Government, RA Nature Protection Ministry, RA Ministry for Territorial Administration and Development, RA Ministry for Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources, RA Water Committee, Expert Committee on Preservation of Lake Sevan of NAS RA, “Sevan National Park” SNCO liable for the current situation and the violations of the Armenian legislation.
