RA National Assembly adopted the bill on additional water intake from Lake Sevan with its second reading, where 80 MPs voted for the bill and only 1 MP, Napoleon Azizyan from Tsarukyan Faction, voted against it. Thus, the water intake from Lake Sevan will make up 210 million cum in 2018.
It should be mentioned that S.O.S Sevan initiative held a protest demonstration at the session of the first reading of the bill in front of the parliament building calling for the MPs not to adopt it.
Over the recent years, the ecological state of Lake Sevan has deteriorated due to the additional water intake. This year the lake has experienced unprecedented algal blooming.
