"New Agreement Won't Be Signed With Any Leaser If Investment Project Not Submitted, Cleaning Plant Not Installed and Working Places Not Established": Environment Minister

No new contract will be signed with any leaser on the shores of Lake Sevan unless s/he submits an investment plan in accordance with the standards set by the Ministry of Environment (EA), installs a treatment plant, and creates jobs, as Environment Minister Romanos Petrosyan stated on February 9 during the extended consultation held in "Sevan" National Park SNCO.

According to the Ministry of Environment, the Minister presented the processes aimed at solving the problems of Lake Sevan so far, in that context, the road map and the priorities of actions.

According to the minister, it is necessary to:

• Analyze the results and, if necessary, review and modify the procedure for controlling, organizing, licensing and industrial fishing in Lake Sevan.

• Carry out dismantling of illegal buildings, removal of construction waste, as well as cleaning of flooded areas.

• Collect the overdues as much as possible, regulate the procedure for granting lease rights to the shores of the lake.
