Taking Additional Water from Sevan, Which Has Negative Balance, Again on Agenda

Lake Sevan has been recording a negative balance for several years now. The lake level at the end of 2020 made up 1900.52 m, it was 1900.43 m at the end of 2021, it was 1900.28 m at the end of 2022.

From the beginning of 2023 to May 24, the lake level rose from 1,900.28 m to 1,900.45 m, but it is still 20 cm lower than the mark of the same day last year. 17,617 million cubic meters of water have already been taken from the lake, 50,710 million cubic meters of water flowed into the lake through Arpa-Sevan aqueduct, according to the data published by "Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center" of RA Environment Ministry.

Under such conditions, the heads of state bodies are discussing the issue of taking additional water from Lake Sevan.

The other day in the National Assembly, Chair of Water Committee of RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures, Vahagn Gevorgyan, announced the need to draw about 70 million cubic meters of additional water from Sevan, noting the decrease in the water flow of the Hrazdan River and the lack of water in the reservoirs.

It should be noted that according to the law, the maximum amount of water intake from Lake Sevan males up 170 million cubic meters.
