Applications are being accepted for an additional 720 tons of commercial whitefish fishing in Lake Sevan. According to the Ministry of Environment, the proposal is based on scientific research conducted in the lake.
Official announcement by the Ministry of Environment
A draft government decision proposes increasing the maximum permitted commercial whitefish catch in Lake Sevan for 2026 from 550 tons to 1,270 tons . This would add a further 720 tons to the existing quota.
It should be noted that 1,270 tons is currently a proposed quota and does not yet constitute an effective legal requirement. The amendment is proposed to Government Decision No. 120-N of 5 February 2026.
Quota of 550 Tons of Whitefish Was Approved at Beginning of Year
Under Government Decision No. 120-N of 5 February 2026, On Establishing the Quotas and Timeframes for Commercial Fishing of Fish and Crayfish in Lake Sevan in 2026, and the Conditions and Requirements for Organising Commercial Fishing, the maximum permitted commercial whitefish catch was set at 550 tons.
