Every day after the explosions at Sotq gold mine the gold dust sits on the fields in Sotq Village, as Sotq Village Head Kolik Shahsuvaryan said in his phone call with EcoLur.
GeoProMining Gold Company, which is developing this mine, hasn’t carried out any social programs for Sotq after 2012.
It should be mentioned that the company supported the village, when in 2012 the company was undergoing the environmental expertise of Sotq mine re-equipment project and they needed the positive opinion of Sotq villagers at the public hearings. With the adoption of that project the crushing and sorting plant operation in the administrative area of Sotq also got legal force, which started its operation before submitting the project in 2011 without any positive opinion of the environmental expertise. In 2012 during the public hearings of Sotq mining project its author Hovik Nikoghosyan stated that the crushing and sorting plant will operate only 2 years till introducing “Albion” technology in Ararat gold recovery plant. In April 2014 “Albion” technology was introduced in Ararat gold recovery plant, but as Sotq Village head told Ecolur, the crushing and sorting plant still continues its operation.
