 The heavy situation with fish reserves in Lake Sevan, which is in its essence a problem of biodiversity conversation, became the factor affecting on the poverty in Gegharkounik region and food provision. The program for socio-economic development of Gegharkounik Region for 2012-2012 for improving the situation implies banning fishing for a term of three years. The fish reserves making up about 30,000 tons in the 90’s, reduced because uncontrolled fish poaching up to 250 tons.

It’s also proposed to make amendments in RA Law “On Lake Sevan”, which imposes a ban on the construction of small HPPs in Sevan basin. Each year the government budget allots on average 60 million AMD for the recovery of endemic species of the trout in Sevan.
