The official data on fish reserves in Sevan don’t comply with the results received from independent experts. Thus, the achievements of Gegharkounik Region for 2007-2010 say that “nearly 60% of the fish in Sevan has been recovered. This is the first stage.” Then it says that in 2010-2011 near one and a half million of young fish of trout and summer bakhtak endemic fishes were let out into the lake. At the same time, in 2011 the Director of the Center for Zoology and Hydroecology of NAS RA Bardoukh Gabrielyan in his interview with ArmInfo said Sevan had only 8-8,5 tons of the whitefish, meanwhile this index was 180 tons for 2010. What about the trout population, which is sought to be recovered several years consecutively, there are no data except for that the ichthyologists had detected eugamic species capable of reproducing. The cause is simple – illegal fish poaching directly from the rivers flowing into the lake almost with no control and count. In the early 90’s the fish reserves in Sevan made up about 30,000 tons.
