Lake Sevan is in an unstable ecological state. An increase in the species diversity of Euglenophyta, typical of 110 polluted and swampy reservoirs, has been recorded in the lake. An increase in the proportion of these algae and their presence in the dominant complex may indicate eutrophication, as "Main results of researcj and scientific-organizational activity of NAS RA for 2021" report says.
The Scientific Center of Zoology and Hydroecology of NAS RA continued its research on Lake Sevan for this purpose within the frameworks of “Assessing the eutrophication mechanisms of Lake Sevan and developing methods to combat "blooming" phenomena" project under the coordination of Bardukh Gabrielyan, Dr. in Biological Sciences. A model of a water purification model has been developed and a corresponding model has been created.
