This morning, a disruption occurred in Yerevan Metro. Around 10:00 a.m., trains stopped at stations, and after some time, passengers were instructed to exit the carriages.
Yerevan Metro issued a statement noting that, due to voltage fluctuations, a technical malfunction occurred in the open section of the metro system. The metro switched to single-track, two-way operation.
However, the situation did not improve immediately. About two hours after the disruption, the Yerevan Metro announced that the technical malfunction had been resolved.
It should be noted that in 2010, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), together with the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Union, provided a EUR 15 million loan to “Karen Demirchyan Yerevan Metro” CJSC for metro rehabilitation (Phase I).
The total loan package was estimated at EUR 22.5 million, but it was never approved. As stated on the official EBRD website, the reason was the lack of environmental and social documentation (“Environmental and Social Documentation is not available for this project”).
RA Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan has announced that AMD 5.5 billion will be allocated from the state budget in 2026 for the development of the Yerevan Metro.
“Electric Networks of Armenia” CJSC has also received loans from international development banks for modernization and development purposes, totaling more than USD 690 million
