What ZCMC Intends to Do with Hazardous Wastes of Copper and Molybdenum Mine

Zangezur Copper-Molybdenum Combine CJSC, which operates Qajaran copper-molybdenum mine, intends to process production, hazardous waste, organize storage and installation sites. The company has submitted to RA Environment Ministry the application for the activity envisaged for "Activation (processing, processing, storage, installation) of hazardous waste from Qajaran copper-molybdenum mine in Syunik Region, Republic of Armenia". The public discussion on the document is scheduled for June 28 at 11:30 am in the Culture Palace in Qajaran.

According to the summary published on the website of RA Environment Ministry, the aim of the work is to ensure proper management of waste generated during the operation of the plant. The documents submitted by the company state that the planned activity may have some impact on the environment. However, it is not specified what the effect may be, how it may manifest itself, and what measures are being taken to mitigate those effects.

Reminder: on September 30, 2021, ZCMC's shareholder, Russian “Industrial Company”, donated 25% of its shares in ZCMC's statutory capital to the Armenian government. 

On January 5, 2022, the Government of the Republic of Armenia decided to transfer the property of the Republic of Armenia in the ZCMC to the trust management of "Armenian National Interest Fund" CJSC.
