Armenia is preparing to introduce an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system, a reform expected to promote waste sorting and recycling while reducing the volume of waste sent to landfills. Communities will play a key role in the process by helping organize and support waste separation at the local level.
EcoLur has examined waste management practices in the communities of Metsamor, Abovyan, and Hrazdan, assessing both the challenges they face and the conditions that could support the successful implementation of the EPR system.
The video highlights the specific issues confronting each community, ranging from waste collection and source separation to the limited availability of recycling infrastructure. It also explores the opportunities that the introduction of EPR could create, including improved waste management services, increased recycling rates, and reduced pressure on landfills.
